How to Choose the Right Wedding Decorations

So many choices with your wedding decorations, it is no wonder a bride can feel overwhelmed. Then question herself about the wedding decorations. Each wedding is unique so you want your own style and personality to complement your dress and theme. Learning how to choose the right wedding decorations is an important step to ensuring your big day is one you’ll always cherish.

1.  Choose a style or theme for your wedding that will help you decide which wedding decorations are appropriate. Use your wedding dress as a guide to the formality and style. For example, a large formal event you may need more wedding decorations than you would for a small party on the beach.

2.  Consider color schemes to help you tie everything together. Flowers, linens, bridesmaid dresses, cakes and flowers should look as though they belong together even if they aren’t exactly the same color. Use a wedding planner color wheel to help you decide on accent colors.

3.  Look at the time of year in which your nuptials take place. Also consider the time of day you are getting married. For example, an evening wedding in the winter may require darker colors, extra candles and muted flowers, while an afternoon wedding in the summer may require light airy colors, bright flowers and handheld fans for guests to cool themselves in the heat.

4.  Pick your wedding decorations based on your location. For an indoor ceremony you may have to look at candles, flowers and pew decorations, while for an outdoor ceremony you may have to look more at arbors, paper lanterns, plants and aisle runners. Look around and use the atmosphere surrounding you.

5.  Rent items from a specialty store catering to weddings and parties. Items like tables and chairs, linens and even table decorations are all great to rent rather than purchase. Often the venue where you choose to hold your wedding may have closets full of decorations you can use for no additional cost.

6.  Draw a map of your wedding area and label the specific areas for your wedding decoration choices. When deciding how to choose the right decorations for your wedding, consider the alter, pews, gift and cake tables, bathrooms, guest book table, food and guest tables, chairs and chair backs, walls, doors, ceilings and floors, where you may need to add color or hide architectural flaws and areas that don’t fit with your design plan.

Wedding Shoes

Wedding Shoes

Wedding shoes are important and you should take your time to find the perfect shoes. Neglecting your tootsies on your wedding day is one of the biggest mistakes you can make. Invest the time and money to find a stylish yet comfortable pair of wedding shoes and you’ll be able to boogie the night away. Skimp on your shoes and you’ll have nothing but blisters and sore feet.

Wedding Shoe Traditions

“Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue – and a sixpence in her shoe” – Old English wedding tradition.

While this sentiment is lovely, nothing is more uncomfortable than a coin in the shoe. Feel free to skip this tradition. No one will know. If anyone asks, say you’ve invested plenty of coins in your wedding shoes.

Another tradition surrounding wedding shoes was set by Queen Victoria in 1840 when she wore a white wedding gown and white wedding shoes. She bucked the traditional color of blue, and white weddings have been the rule ever since. This doesn’t mean that you must wear a white gown with shoes to match. If you prefer ivory or some other color, you too can buck tradition.

Wise Words on Wedding Shoes

When picking out wedding shoes, you should match the style of shoe to the dress.

This isn’t as necessary when you have a long, flowing gown as few will glimpse your feet. However, you will still need a quality pair of wedding shoes. Planning a beach wedding in a short dress? Bejeweled flip-flops are the obvious choice. This wedge is now offered at Lily’s Bridal and Prom Boutique.

Wedding Flip Flops

Because wedding shoes can cost hundreds of dollars, many brides opt for styles they can wear again. Say goodbye to the standard white satin pumps and hello to designer footwear with fresh and fabulous new looks. Consider slingbacks, strappy sandals, ballet slippers and pumps. While heel choices range from flats to stilettos, the best choice is a heel you can walk in without having to practice – that is, a low heel. If you need the added height, go for a shoe with a wedge rather than a stiletto as they are much more forgiving.

Buying wedding shoes is just as important as buying your wedding dress, maybe even more so because foot comfort can dramatically affect how you feel throughout the day. Pay attention to the details and pick out a stylish pair of shoes that can stand up to the test you’ll be putting them through on your wedding day. Once you buy the shoes, practice walking so you are completely comfortable on your feet. Consider buying a set of reception shoes for even more comfort throughout the day.

How to Look Gorgeous in Your Wedding Photos

Your wedding photos, like your wedding vows themselves, are meant to last forever. You can make sure those wedding photos capture you in all your bridal glory by following these foolproof steps to picture perfection.

Wedding Photos,Plus Size Wedding Gowns,Prom Dresses,Bridal Gowns,Wedding gowns,Maryland,Designer,Plus Size Prom Gowns,Baltimore,Wedding Dresses,Plus Size Wedding Dresses

1. Hire a professional wedding photographer to take your wedding photos. The best wedding photographer is the one who makes you feel comfortable at your very first pre-wedding meeting, and who understands exactly how you want your wedding photos to look and feel. Make sure the photographer shows you actual wedding photos he or she has shot, and talk to the photographer’s former clients for feedback and referrals. Don’t rely on eager but inexperienced family members or friends who offer to save you money by snapping pix on your big day, but do let them take wedding photos of their own and send you the best shots as keepsakes.

2.  Have your makeup done by a professional. A pro makeup artist knows how to utilize cosmetics to make your face look its best under specific photo conditions (harsh lights, flash, sunlight, etc.). Do a run through with your makeup artist prior to your wedding, and make sure you feel comfortable with how you look. On your wedding day, have touch up supplies at arm’s reach(oil blotting sheets, pressed powder, lipstick and lip liner, mirror, etc.). Last but not least, two words: waterproof mascara!

3.  Practice in front of a mirror. Spend a few moments rehearsing your smiling and posing for your wedding photos. Closed or open mouth smile? Right side of your face or left? You’ll get a sense of your preferences and be ready for your close up when the photographer points and shoots. Take some test shots with your cell phone.

4.  Work your angles. Don’t face the camera head on, but rather tilt your body 45 degrees, even in portrait shots. Also, follow the lead of your favorite celebrities, and slightly cross your legs when standing, placing the heel of your forward foot near the toe of your rear foot. This position will help to narrow your silhouette and avoid the dreaded “deer in the headlights” look.

5.  Check before the click. Prior to any posed photo shoot on your wedding day (directly after your ceremony, cake cutting, etc.), check your hair and makeup, and make any necessary adjustments. Smooth down flyaway hairs, and blot or powder the shine off your nose and forehead. Our favorite pretty picture trick? After touching up your makeup, press your palms to your cheeks, hold for a moment, then release. This will give your face a natural, rosy glow and minimize the overdone look that sometimes mars wedding photos.

6.  Relax. Before your photographer shoots, take a couple of deep breaths and lower your shoulders (but keep your neck long and chin slightly down). Feel the love surrounding you, savor the joy of the moment and smile.

These simple tips will help make your wedding photos extra special and precious.

Questions to Ask Your Wedding Caterer

Wedding Caterer,Plus Size Wedding Gowns,Prom Dresses,Bridal Gowns,Wedding gowns,Maryland,Designer,Plus Size Prom Gowns,Baltimore,Wedding Dresses,Plus Size Wedding Dresses

You’ll spend more money on wedding food than any other aspect of your reception, so you’ll want to work with a top-notch professional. When making appointments to interview wedding caterers, try to schedule a tasting of their wares at a later point. Don’t forget to ask them the questions below, and choosing a caterer will be as easy as pie — just make sure your taste buds have a say in the matter too.

1. Does the wedding caterer specialize in certain types of food or service? (They should provide you with sample menus to review.)

2. Can the wedding caterer arrange for a tasting of the specific foods you’re interested in, prior to hiring?

3.  What is the wedding caterer’s average price range? Are costs itemized depending on the foods you choose, or is there an all-inclusive flat rate? What would that include (linens, tax, and gratuity)?

4.  How involved is the wedding caterer in a typical reception?

5.  Will the wedding caterer provide tables, chairs, plates, table linens, silverware, salt-and-pepper shakers, and more? Ask to see these items to make sure they’re acceptable. Do you have to rent tables, place settings, or other equipment? Or will they arrange for the rentals? If not, find wedding rentals in your area.

6.  Who is the main contact? Will the same person you work with when planning also oversee meal service on the day of the wedding? (You want this to be the case.) You don’t want all your hard work to be pushed off to someone else who has no clue.

7.  Will the wedding caterer provide wait staff? How many would they recommend for the size of your wedding? What will the waitstaff wear? (Top caterers say they always use their own serving personnel, even if the site’s staff is available, because they understand the caterer’s way of doing business.)

8.  Where will the food be prepared? Are there on-site facilities, or do you, the wedding caterer, and the site manager need to make additional arrangements? If the caterer must bring in his own equipment, is there an additional fee?

9.  Does the wedding caterer have a license? (This means her business has met health department standards and has liability insurance — make sure this includes a liquor license if you’re having a bar.)

10.  Can the wedding caterer provide alcohol? Or can you handle the bar separately? If you can provide it, is there a corkage fee? How and when will you get the alcohol to the caterer? If the caterer will provide it, do they have an flexible wine list, and can you make special requests? How is this list priced?

11.  How will the wedding caterer arrange the food on the buffet table or on plates? Can you see photos of previous work displays?

12.  Can you speak to previous clients? (Get at least two references that had a similar number of guests and a similar menu style.)

13.  Does the wedding caterer also do wedding cakes? Can you use an outside baker if you desire? Is there a cake-cutting fee?

14.  How does your wedding cater take payment? You should be able to make payments and have the bill paid for in full so many days prior to your wedding day along with a final count.
