Bride’s Bouquet Toss

Bride’s Bouquet Toss

Weddings are not all about the dress. They have so many traditions and I love to learn how they began and how they evolved to what they are today. One that really peeked my interest lately was the Bride’s bouquet toss. Where did this tradition come from?

Bride's Bouquet Toss, Wedding Gowns,Maryland,Plus Size,Wedding Dresses,Prom Dresses,Curvy Brides,Baltimore

Well let’s travel back in time to the 14th century where the original tradition began. The bride has always thought to be a lucky woman. So it was common for wedding guest to actually grab and rip shreds of the bride’s gown. Yes you read that correctly. You would have guests grabbing and ripping pieces of your gown for good luck.

As time went on Bride’s needed to find a way to change this tradition. Basically creating a new tactic to avoid the destroying of her wedding gown. So the tossing of the bouquet became the new tradition. The bride would toss her bouquet in to the crowd to distract her guest, so she could leave with her husband to the bridal chamber.

So now all the single ladies line up on the dance floor for the chance to catch the bride’s bouquet. Whoever catches the bouquet is the next to get married! They are receiving all the luck from the bride. The tossing of the bride’s bouquet allows everyone to be around the bride and her beautiful wedding gown instead of ripping her wedding gown to shreds. Something I am sure every Bride is thankful for. A bride spends a lot of time getting ready for your special day. No one better shred up their wedding gown!!

Tips for Choosing The Perfect Wedding Centerpieces

Wedding Centerpieces, why are they so important? A large part of planning the perfect wedding comes down to planning the perfect wedding reception. While the ceremony itself is the star of the day, the reception is the much anticipated after party and that’s when the real celebrations take place. When couples plan their wedding reception a great deal of attention is put on the food and entertainment, which is as it should be. But décor plays a large part in setting the stage for a memorable wedding reception, and it’s easy to overlook those little things that can help to add a distinctive touch to your own wedding celebration. Such as your Wedding Centerpieces.

Why the Concern on Wedding Centerpieces?

During the reception, your guests will be spending much of their time seated around dining tables. When they are not dancing or moving through the receiving lines, guests will be seated at table eating, drinking, and generally enjoying the company of friends and family. Wedding centerpieces give couples a wonderful opportunity to put their own personalities into the décor of the venue. Wedding centerpieces can take many different forms, from flower arrangements to a cluster of mirrors and candles; from fruit baskets to elegantly arranged tea cakes. The only limit is your imagination.

What to Consider

There are a number of things couples need to consider when choosing their wedding centerpieces. First, and foremost, is budget. Decide how many tables will be needed for your reception, and how much money you can allow for each centerpiece.  Consider how many guests will be seated at each table and how much space can be given to the centerpiece. Try to avoid centerpieces that take up too much space, and steer clear of designs that may obstruct your guest’s view. If your reception is in a dimly lit venue, you may want to include candles or tea lights in your centerpieces to create accent lighting at your guest’s tables.

Coordinate With Your Venue

Before settling on any final design choices for your wedding centerpieces, be sure to check with your venue. Some venues have restrictions. You should also confirm set-up times with venue, to ensure that you have ample time beforehand to set up. Also don’t forget to find out who is responsible for clean up after your reception.

Where to Honeymoon

Where to Honeymoon?

For many couples, the honeymoon is a once-in-a-lifetime trip, so it’s important to select a location that fits your needs, budget, and style. But how do you decide on your destination? Start by answering these five questions:

What’s your dream location? It’s your honeymoon, so start by dreaming big! Talk to your future spouse about destinations you’ve always wanted to visit, and note any similarities in your dream destinations. While you both might not initially want to go to the exact same location, you can find common ground in the general part of the world you want to visit, the honeymoon style you prefer (beach, cultural, off-the-beaten path), or even more specific features – like you both want a location with world-class restaurants. And if you just can’t settle on one location, perhaps a cruise is right for you!

Honeymoon,Plus Size Wedding Gowns,Prom Dresses,Bridal Gowns,Wedding gowns,Maryland,Designer,Plus Size Prom Gowns,Baltimore

How much time do you have? If you have an unlimited amount of vacation time, lucky you! But most couples have work or other obligations that may prohibit them from taking an extremely long honeymoon. So if you have just a weekend to get away, you may want to pick a location close to home. But if you’re able to take two weeks off, you can spend more time traveling to a far off destination, like Australia or Bali.

What is your budget? Consider how much money you have to spend. While honeymoon registries are a good way to ask your guests to help pay for extras and activities, it’s important that you’re able to afford the airfare, accommodations and meals yourself, right now. If you’re looking to cut costs, look for all-inclusive resorts or locations closer to home to save on airfare. Also, try to avoid visiting hot destinations during peak travel season. Each destination has a peak season. You may want to consider waiting for off peak season to travel.

When are you going? The time of year is important in choosing a destination, so make sure to do your research. There is weather to consider and peak travel seasons.

Honeymoon,Plus Size Wedding Gowns,Prom Dresses,Bridal Gowns,Wedding gowns,Maryland,Designer,Plus Size Prom Gowns,Baltimore

What do we want to do? Do you want a relaxing honeymoon experience, or one full of adventure? Is nightlife important to you or are you more interested in daytime cultural activities like museums? Talk to your future spouse about all your travel preferences before committing to a location. There are some destinations that provide versatility, like many of the Caribbean islands, but you’re not going be lounging on the beach in Paris, for example, so choose the activities that are most important to you.

Post Wedding Brunch

Post Wedding Brunch

Post Wedding Brunch hosted the morning after the wedding can be a terrific way to connect with out-of-town relatives and close friends after the chaos of the day before. I have found some great tips to help host the Post Wedding Brunch.

Post wedding brunch,Plus Size Wedding Gowns,Prom Dresses,Bridal Gowns,Wedding gowns,Maryland,Designer,Plus Size Prom Gowns,Baltimore

Who should host?

First of all, anyone is allowed to host a post wedding brunch. However, parents of the couple should be realistic about just how tired they might be after such a momentous event. Even though it is a happy day, it comes with a lot of stress. And sleep will probably not be aplenty. The mother-of-the-groom will simply not have time to clean her house and bake for a bunch of guests. The best option is probably for a relative of the couple (who isn’t involved in the wedding day activities other than attending as a guest) or close family friend to host.

Where should you host the brunch?

Of course, you could host the post wedding brunch at a restaurant or venue. But, if you have room, it can be so much nicer to host it at your house or a family member’s house. The goal is for everyone to be comfortable. Although using a restaurant makes it really easy on the host or hostess, it can also be very expensive.

What should the decor be?

The only good rule of thumb is that no wedding-related event ought to outshine or be more formal than the wedding itself. The wedding was probably a little bit noisy and full of small talk and a bit too warm on the dance floor. In other words, only true extroverts will not be utterly exhausted. Post wedding brunches should feel light and airy and relaxed. Open up your windows, clean off the patio, and play soft music in the background. A couple of simple floral arrangements would be just fine to decorate a buffet table, but then limit it at that. The decor for a post wedding brunch should just be simple!

Post Wedding Brunch,Plus Size Wedding Gowns,Prom Dresses,Bridal Gowns,Wedding gowns,Maryland,Designer,Plus Size Prom Gowns,Baltimore

What should you serve?

You can serve whatever you want at your post wedding brunch. Coffee will be a definite must. Serve something sweet and something hearty. Your slightly hungover friends will appreciate the choices.   Although you are welcome to serve cocktails, make it simple with traditional drinks like mimosas or screwdrivers. A little “hair of the dog” might be what a few guests need.

Wedding Day Makeup

How to Choose Your Wedding Day Makeup

You understand how important beauty and makeup is on your wedding day and you want to be confident you will look fabulous in person as well as in pictures so you need to find a high-quality makeup artist. With so many makeup artist websites out there how do you start sorting through the good ones from the bad ones? Below are the top steps in choosing the best makeup artist for your wedding day makeup.

Wedding Day Makeup,Plus Size Wedding Gowns,Prom Dresses,Bridal Gowns,Wedding gowns,Maryland,Designer,Plus Size Prom Gowns,Baltimore

For a start, you can ask friends, relatives or even your regular hairdresser if they can recommend some good bridal make-up artists and if possible, you should even have a look at their portfolios to see if their work interests you. If your wedding is being planned by a professional planner, you should ask him/her if they have make-up artist suggestions, because they should at least have one.

If you want your wedding photos to be admirable, it is also important that you get a makeup artist that you are comfortable with. The morning of your wedding day is definitely a very special day for you. As such, you should choose someone who makes you feel comfortable and secure. His/her presence should make you calm and relaxed and just enjoy your big day.

Decide if you wish to have your wedding day makeup done in your home/venue or if you want to go to a salon/mall on your wedding day. If you like the convenience of having someone come to you directly on your wedding day then seek out makeup artists that are freelance and mobile in your area.

Wedding Day Makeup,Plus Size Wedding Gowns,Prom Dresses,Bridal Gowns,Wedding gowns,Maryland,Designer,Plus Size Prom Gowns,Baltimore

Decide if you want both your wedding day makeup and hair arranged at the same location. If this is a requirement for you then conduct a web search for makeup artists and hair stylists in your area. Many bridal makeup artists also provide hair styling and can accommodate this type of request.

Ask around and get referrals. Ask your friends, family, coworkers and hairdresser if they can recommend a good makeup artist and if possible, look at the makeup artist’s portfolio to see if you like the artist’s work yourself! If you’re having your wedding planned by a wedding planner, ask if they have any makeup artist suggestions, because they should have at least one.

Wedding Day Makeup,Plus Size Wedding Gowns,Prom Dresses,Bridal Gowns,Wedding gowns,Maryland,Designer,Plus Size Prom Gowns,Baltimore

Review several makeup artist websites from your chosen area. Look at their portfolio of work and decide if their style of makeup is similar to your own. When looking over the images, check for things such as skin tone matching, attention to detail and if they include any current bridal makeup trend pictures in their portfolio of work. The portfolio is everything, and don’t try to ignore what you don’t like. Always set up a trial with the make up artists that peak your interest. Never wait until the day of the wedding to decide on your wedding day makeup.

Questions to Ask Your Wedding Caterer

Wedding Caterer,Plus Size Wedding Gowns,Prom Dresses,Bridal Gowns,Wedding gowns,Maryland,Designer,Plus Size Prom Gowns,Baltimore,Wedding Dresses,Plus Size Wedding Dresses

You’ll spend more money on wedding food than any other aspect of your reception, so you’ll want to work with a top-notch professional. When making appointments to interview wedding caterers, try to schedule a tasting of their wares at a later point. Don’t forget to ask them the questions below, and choosing a caterer will be as easy as pie — just make sure your taste buds have a say in the matter too.

1. Does the wedding caterer specialize in certain types of food or service? (They should provide you with sample menus to review.)

2. Can the wedding caterer arrange for a tasting of the specific foods you’re interested in, prior to hiring?

3.  What is the wedding caterer’s average price range? Are costs itemized depending on the foods you choose, or is there an all-inclusive flat rate? What would that include (linens, tax, and gratuity)?

4.  How involved is the wedding caterer in a typical reception?

Wedding Caterer,Plus Size Wedding Gowns,Prom Dresses,Bridal Gowns,Wedding gowns,Maryland,Designer,Plus Size Prom Gowns,Baltimore,Wedding Dresses,Plus Size Wedding Dresses

5.  Will the wedding caterer provide tables, chairs, plates, table linens, silverware, salt-and-pepper shakers, and more? Ask to see these items to make sure they’re acceptable. Do you have to rent tables, place settings, or other equipment? Or will they arrange for the rentals? If not, find wedding rentals in your area.

6.  Who is the main contact? Will the same person you work with when planning also oversee meal service on the day of the wedding? (You want this to be the case.) You don’t want all your hard work to be pushed off to someone else who has no clue.

7.  Will the wedding caterer provide wait staff? How many would they recommend for the size of your wedding? What will the waitstaff wear? (Top caterers say they always use their own serving personnel, even if the site’s staff is available, because they understand the caterer’s way of doing business.)

8.  Where will the food be prepared? Are there on-site facilities, or do you, the wedding caterer, and the site manager need to make additional arrangements? If the caterer must bring in his own equipment, is there an additional fee?

9.  Does the wedding caterer have a license? (This means her business has met health department standards and has liability insurance — make sure this includes a liquor license if you’re having a bar.)

10.  Can the wedding caterer provide alcohol? Or can you handle the bar separately? If you can provide it, is there a corkage fee? How and when will you get the alcohol to the caterer? If the caterer will provide it, do they have an flexible wine list, and can you make special requests? How is this list priced?

11.  How will the wedding caterer arrange the food on the buffet table or on plates? Can you see photos of previous work displays?

12.  Can you speak to previous clients? (Get at least two references that had a similar number of guests and a similar menu style.)

13.  Does the wedding caterer also do wedding cakes? Can you use an outside baker if you desire? Is there a cake-cutting fee?

14.  How does your wedding cater take payment? You should be able to make payments and have the bill paid for in full so many days prior to your wedding day along with a final count.

How do I shop for my Bridal Gown?

You are engaged and now it is time to go Bridal Gown Shopping. What are the key things you should know when shopping for your bridal gown?

What is the best day to shop?

The busiest time at a bridal boutique is Saturday and Sunday. If you want to have less of a crowd go during the week.

How do I decide what bridal shop to go to?

Ask your friends where they went shopping for their bridal gown. Research online all the bridal boutiques in your area and decide which ones you want to shop and find your bridal gown. Call the boutiques to see if they require appointments and what their price ranges are for their bridal gowns. Limit the number of people to your appointment. It makes it less stressful on you. You can always bring them back to show them your bridal gown.

When should I order my Bridal Gown?

Brides magazine recommends that you purchase your gown at least 9 months to 1 year before your wedding date. Why such a large time frame? Your dress needs to be made from the designer. Most designers do not have hanging inventory and when your dress is ordered that is when it starts the manufacturing process. You will also need to allow time for alterations and any issues that may come up. Time is your friend when ordering your bridal gown. This is a big decision and it will set the tone/theme for your wedding. Once this item is checked off your list, you can move on to all the other fashion decisions of your wedding. If you are planning on purchasing off the rack then we suggest 4 to 6 months before your wedding date. As the other fashions for the wedding party need to be ordered as well and they can take up to 4 months to arrive.

What should I bring with me to my appointment?

Photos of dress styles you would like to try. Any items that you have already decided to wear such as shoes, undergarments, veil, jewelry, etc.

Who should I bring with me to my appointment?

Be extremely careful with whom you bring to your appointment. Too many people will make your decision extremely difficult and very frustrating for you. They also need to understand your style and your budget. They need to be supportive and want to be there for YOU. The key is to bring the key people that you need to help make your decision. The magic numbers seems to be no more than 4.

What should I tell my Bridal Fashion Consultant?

Be 100% honest with your Bridal Fashion Consultant. Tell her the styles you are interested in, any concerns/requirements of the gown, how you feel about the dresses you are trying on or have tried on, and your bridal gown budget. Falling in love with a dress that is way beyond your budget will just take up too much time at your appointment and then you will compare every other dress to the dress that is out of your budget. Holding back or lying to your Bridal Fashion Consultant will only prevent her from doing her job and finding your bridal gown.

Should I only try on dresses I like?

Try on gowns that you pick out and gowns that your Bridal Fashion Consultant may suggest. Be open-minded, a dress looks so much different on someone than hanging on the hanger.

Should I buy a dress on my first visit?

Absolutely! Why Not? Only you will know when it is the right dress. At your appointment you will try on several gowns and when you find the dress you will know it. You have so many other tasks to complete with planning your wedding, get this big one checked off the list and move on to the next one. Once you purchase your gown stop looking at bridal gowns keep moving forward with planning your wedding.

What could I risk by not buying the dress I love on my appointment?

By leaving an appointment with a dress you love, but not purchasing it, you risk a few things. The dress may be sold off the rack and you will not have the opportunity to show your mother later or to try it on again. So you will be ordering from memory. Another risk is that a gown may be discontinued by a designer and unable to be reordered. In that case the only dress available will be the one in the store and if it isn’t in the color and size you need you miss the opportunity to have the dress you fell in love with. It’s best to be ready by bringing your mom or whomever you want with you so if you find that perfect dress you won’t have to leave it behind. Why take the risk?

Shopping for your bridal gown should be fun, exciting, and something you tell all your friends about. Enjoy this time with your family and friends.

Your Wedding Vision

Making the Most of the Wedding Vision

Wedding Dresses,Bridal Gowns,Plus Size, Maryland, Prom

Years before you are ready to walk towards altar and formally commit to your spouse, you would’ve had the wedding vision. It is your idea of the perfect wedding – what it should or should not have. Over time a few specifications might change depending on other factors like the budget. Nevertheless, most of your wedding preparations are dependent on your wedding vision!

Some people dream about the beach wedding right in front of the scenic waves. A few might like the spiritual silence of church to create the bond. Everyone has different preferences. Amidst those who have envisioned already, only a few would know how to translate these images into reality. For others, the event managers are available to take on this job!

Why Should You Go For An Event Management Team?

For a simple reason; you want your big day to be perfect! If you overburden yourself with chores that you need to do before your wedding, you end up tiring yourself. Not only this, such kind of stress can easily mess up your tasks as well. Having an event manager by your side will allow you to channel out your stress productively without getting worked up.

Your wedding day is one of those important ones which stay in your memories for the rest of your life. On such an auspicious occasion, you definitely don’t want to be worrying about the color of the drapes or the flower arrangements around the venue. You need time to yourself to prepare and outshine on the big day. It is time to let the worries go; it is time for a positive change!

Having an event management team by your side can be really helpful for you. It doesn’t necessarily mean you will not be able to have your way or end up spending too much on your wedding. Most reputed event managers begin by conducting a consultation session in which they hear about your wedding vision. This is when you get to express everything that is on your mind.

Subsequent meetings help you decide on the budget, the venue and other particulars of the event. There may be a few compromises but in the end, it is worth your finances because it gives you the peace of mind that you need the most!

Getting Caught Up In A Whirl

The moment your spouse proposes till the time you say “I do”, time seems to fly by. The excitement and happiness will take up most of your time and energy. You meet up with your friends and family often to cherish these moments. There is so much about the wedding arrangements that you need to supervise in order to turn your wedding vision into reality. Often, you don’t realize the pace at which the time passes till you are just a couple of days away from it!

The event manager ensures you get to spend quality time with those that matter to you the most. They take up the burden of arrangements so you can focus exclusively on yourself, your health and your loved ones!

Selecting Colors for Your Bridesmaids – What You Need To Consider

Maryland Wedding Dresses,Bridal gowns,Plus Size Bridal

Choosing Your Bridal Party’s Colors For the bride, the heavenly white dress does the trick. Whether it has lace, an intricate design or is as simple as an evening gown, the white colors sets the bride apart from the rest. It gives the lucky lady a sense of being different, special and being the highlight of the day! While everyone’s eyes are locked on the magnificent bride, it shouldn’t be a reason for the bridesmaids to feel any less important. After all, they’ve spent a lifetime (or equivalent to a lifetime) with the special one.

It pays to be the bridesmaid; after all, who’s the next best person to look at after the bride? With bridesmaids, the preparations and designs are a lot different when compared with the bride. For the most part, the whole idea revolves around colors. It is exciting to see the best ones adorned in identical dresses – either in color or in design.

This brings us to the trickiest part – how to select the color for bridesmaids? Everyone has their own personal favorites. There are over a million colors to choose from and you have to settle for one. As challenging as the decision is, it is further worsened by the fact that each of your bridesmaids will have their own preferences. So they might not like the color you choose and will wear it grudgingly. Can you afford to spoil your wedding pictures because of a grumpy bridesmaid? The next best way is to opt to the tried-and-tested themes created to prevent conflicts.

Here is a little insight about each of these and how you can use the theme to reach consensus with your bridesmaids.

“I See The Sea”

Does your venue incorporate the picturesque view of the sea (or a lake or any water body for that matter)? If it does and if you are planning for a morning event, it’ll be a good idea to go for the soft colors. It adds to the beauty of your surroundings and completes the picture instead of contradicting it! These days, mint color is quite popular. It has a refreshing feel to it. If your venue has a couple of trees in it, the mint color would look spectacular on your bridesmaids! Alternatively, if there aren’t any greens in the picture, you can try working with coral pinks. It offers a “marine” feel that works well within sandy backgrounds.

The Vintage Classic

If your venue incorporates a high ceiling church building with golden-dust colored walls and typical decors with little to no flowers in the neighborhood, you are most probably headed for a vintage classic styled wedding. Accordingly, your best options lie with vintage colors. In other words, black color would look awesome on your bridesmaids in the given surroundings!

The Retro Revisited

Planning for a wedding that rolls with the setting sun? As the natural lights fade, deep colored dresses will automatically fall into perspective. With this, however, you’ve got a wide number of options. You can try deep purple, emerald green and deep blue. Let the majority decide which one it really is! Wedding Gifts – Making a Lasting Impression

Wedding Gifts - Bridal Gowns, Plus Size Wedding Dresses, Maryland

It can be pretty baffling to decide what to give your best friends on their wedding. Most of this nervousness can be attributed to the fact that at this particular moment, the gift you give will be defining your image in the eyes of the spouse. Now whether you know him/her or not, a negative impression is the last thing you’ll want to make. To save you from embarrassment, here are a few wedding gift ideas you can use to surprise your best friend with aesthetic taste and luxurious style!

Go Custom

Nothing beats customization. It does not matter what item you choose to customize. You can go for special cups preferably with the name of the bride and the groom imprinted on it. Or you can go for inscribed accessories like bed covers, towels, cushions, or any other accessory for that matter. As long as you’ve made the effort to ensure the pieces do not look uniform or factory-manufactured, you’ve done a good job that will be nicely received by the wedded couple.

Baskets Full Of Goodies

If you think a particular gift might annoy the couple, go for a basket full of assorted goodies. And this is where you can let your imagination go wild. Make sure the basket you make has a certain distinctive theme and pool in as many related products as you would like to gift. For instance, you can create an aromatic essentials basket that contains scented bathing products, massaging creams, lotions, relaxing salts, candles, towels, and any other product you think will blend in well with this theme. Alternatively, you can go for a wine package with a few related essentials packed in. Whatever you do, stick to a particular theme and build around it. With so many small gifts coming enclosed in a basket, the wedded couple will have difficulty finding fault with it!

Kitchen Accessories

This works well if you are planning to gift it to a lady friend. There are over a million kitchen products you can choose from. From food processors and juicers to those stylish platters and bowls, you have an extremely diverse range of options. A morsel of advice – choose an option that fits your budget. However, if you can get your hands on one of those extremely stylish pieces of crockery, rest assured the couple (particularly the wife) will welcome it with pride!

Decors… Decors… and more Decors…

Chances are high that the new couple would be moving into a separate accommodation after marriage. This means setting up this comfort zone right from scratch. With so much being invested in the wedding alone, they wouldn’t want to say “no” to a little help with home decors. You can go for some decoration pieces or build some of your own. Better still; create customized decors that talk about their romantic journey to marriage and beyond. At this moment when the couple is so engulfed in love, such presents will be more than appreciated around the house!

Selecting a wedding present is not really as daunting as it appears to be. Let your (positive) creativity take control and guide you towards the right choice. If it feels right, it probably is so!
