Wedding Tips for Wedding #2…or #3, or #4…

In this day and age it’s really not uncommon for people to be married more than once. It’s been proven time and time again that getting married before the age of 25 skyrockets your chance of divorce (don’t even get me going on the psychology of human brain development before 25 years old), so it’s perfect understandable that a generation of people that got married before 25 would get divorced and then find real love later on in life.

So that being said, let’s get to the fun stuff!

Your second (or third, or fourth) marriage doesn’t have to be exactly like your first wedding, nor does it have to be completely different. There are, however, a few tips you might want to keep in mind.

1.) Focus on this wedding. It can be easy to bring up your first wedding during wedding planning. “When Bob and I got married, we had these adorable little cupcakes…” But it’s not recommended. This should be about your current relationship, not past relationships. Plus, are you really going to take the “amazing” suggestion anyway? Chances are, if your future spouse and his ex had cupcakes at their wedding, you’re not going to want a cupcake near your venue.

2.) Wear what you want. For many women, the first time around was a compromise. They chose a wedding dress that their mother, sister, maid of honor all agreed on, even if it might not have been the dress you would have chosen. For your second wedding, do whatever you want! Screw the ballgown you weren’t crazy about the first time around, and go for a clean elegant white gown covered in lace or a short, blue dress with feathers. Yes I said blue. Or any color you could possibly want.

3.) Invite the right people. If you had reservations the first time around about inviting your sister-in-law because she makes everything about her and sure enough she showed up in white announcing her engagement, don’t feel bad about leaving her off the guest list this time. And if your mom just insists on inviting your childhood neighbors tell her too bad. No harm, no foul.

4.) Consider including your kids. If you happen to have kids during this time, think about including them in the ceremony. And not just as a flower girl or the best man, but in some of the rituals. A marriage between two people with children is not just about those two people coming together, it’s about the joining of two families. Letting your kids get involved will help them be more accepting of their new step-parent and/or siblings.

5.) Don’t stress. A wedding is a time for happiness, and since this is not your first wedding, consider the weight lifted. Many couples look back on their big day and wish they would’ve slowed down and enjoyed it a little more instead of being worried about if their guests are enjoying their choice of music or not. So on this round, have a good time and appreciate how lucky you are to have found the love of your life.

5 Ways to Rock a Bridal Show -Wedding Gowns,Dresses,Plus Size,Maryland

Bridal show season is right around the corner Lily’s Bridal would like to offer you some tips on how to take the Bridal show to help plan your wedding. A bridal show is not only a huge help for a bride (all of her potential and competing vendors in one place), but it’s also incredibly helpful for the vendors themselves (all of their potential clients in one place).

And there’s really no better way to dive head first into wedding planning. Thing is though, if you don’t know what you’re doing you could end up wasting the whole day. Here are a few tips to make sure any bridal show you attend will be the most useful wedding planning day of the year:

1.) Don’t bring children or a lot of people. This is really a day for research. You’re probably going to have a great time, of course, but you’ll regret it if you went home at the end of the day without any real information. So leave the kids at home (they won’t be able to make it an all-day thing anyway without getting bored and cranky), and only bring those really essential in your wedding planning, like your mother or your Maid of Honor.

2.) Be prepared with your wedding details. You never know when you might be speaking to your future DJ or caterer. Having the details of your wedding figured out (for the most part) will allow you to have an intelligent conversation with one of these professionals. Think about the main issues; how many people will be attending, the venue, the mood (modern and elegant, traditional and romantic, spunky and fun, etc.), and any other details you might already know, like your wedding colors.

3.) Bring a large bag. Almost every single vendor (at least the smart ones anyway), are going to have some kind of brochure they will be handing out. You’re going to want these brochures; they provide all the details of their services. This not only tells you about that vendor in particular, but it also gives you an idea of what to expect from competing vendors. Plus, even if you don’t choose one of the vendors as the show, these brochures have tons of tips and ideas for your wedding, don’t pass them up!

4.) Wear comfortable shoes. If you really want to get the most out of a bridal show, it’s best to be there all day. Many times they have drawings for discounted packages, or even honeymoon prizes! You’re going to be standing in a lot of lines and talking to a lot of vendors, so those 4” stilettos, while fabulous, need to be left at home.

5.) Bring address labels. Unless you want to be spending a large chunk of the event writing down your name, address, email address and wedding date, bring labels. It’ll be a huge time-saver by the end of the night.

And don’t forget to have fun! Get as much information as you can, taste as much cake as you can and enjoy planning your wedding!
